The future for CNAs is promising and plays a vital role in the healthcare industry. In this article, you will learn more about the CNA profession and where the future of this career is headed. Use this article as a reference in case you are considering pursuing this career or share it with someone else contemplating.
CNAs Are Still Standing
As mentioned before, and to be exact, 1,595,642 Certified Nursing Assistants are currently employed in the United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the CNA profession is estimated to grow 8 percent by 2026, while those employed in skilled nursing facilities, home health, and psychiatric units will see a more significant growth rate of 24 percent.
The numbers will only continue to grow exponentially as the baby boomer generation ages and every generation after that. Nurse assistants will remain in high demand to provide patient care to those aging with chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. So, job security for CNAs is extremely solid. If you are considering pursuing this career, the time is now!
CNAs Are a Great Pillar of Support
Per the World Health Organization (WHO) report, there is one physician per 1,000 citizens — proving that CNAs are essential in bridging patient-to-physician communication. The fact is that physicians are unable to be in every detail of patient care, but CNAs can. They can prevent patient conditions from worsening and allow physicians to maximize their time with patients. Therefore, CNAs are vital in patient care, helping with daily activities, thus creating strong relationships and truly becoming a pillar of support for their patients.
CNAs could also work directly with other healthcare professionals, such as registered nurses, to ensure patients receive the utmost care in physical or complex tasks. Keep in mind that each state has specific responsibilities for CNAs, tasks may differ depending on where you live.
Regardless of state, what remains the same is the level of dedication CNAs give patients daily.
CNA Career Outlook
Being a CNA is choosing a career path that is both rewarding and fulfilling. They work directly with patients in several clinical facilities and even in correctional facilities while gaining experience skills which brings growth opportunities that further the career. In some cases, becoming a CNA is the perfect way to get your foot in the door and move up the nursing ladder.
The BLS projects growth to be much faster than the average for all occupations and is expected to create 116,900 new positions by 2029. Furthermore, the BLS also expects long-term care facilities and nursing homes to bring the best job opportunities as older generations start to age and develop chronic illnesses.
CNAs can take traveling opportunities as healthcare staff shortages continue to impact patient care. As a traveling CNA, patient care is a bit different in terms of setting as CNAs pay visits to patients at the patient’s home or may travel to various healthcare facilities to fill in the gaps.
